1 BAM began with a simple idea: that mahjong is really about the people around the table. We built a room worthy of the game — and the friendships it makes.
Every great idea begins with people.
In our case, it began with four friends — Kanchan, Radhika, Samipa, and Shalini — brought together by a shared love for Mahjong.
For months, we met around Mahjong tables, playing game after game, building friendships, and discovering how much joy the game brought into our lives. Over time, one question kept returning: why isn't there a dedicated space for Mahjong?
Not a place where you can also play Mahjong, but a place created for Mahjong — where players could gather, learn, compete, connect, and belong. What started as a conversation soon became a dream, and that dream became 1 BAM.
Like most founders, we imagined endless afternoons playing Mahjong together. The reality turned out to be very different. Today, instead of spending hours at the table ourselves, we spend our time creating a space and experience for others — welcoming new players, hosting games, growing the community, and watching friendships form across our tables.
The response has been more than we could have hoped for. What began with four friends and a simple idea is becoming something much bigger than we imagined, and we look forward to taking 1 BAM to even more players and communities in the years ahead.
So whether you're a seasoned player or joining your very first game, you're always welcome here. And if you're ever short a player, don't be surprised if one of us pulls up a chair and joins the table.

Every name begins with a sound.
The word Mahjong is believed to come from the gentle, twittering call of a bird — soft, rhythmic, and alive. Among the tiles, the 1 Bamboo — “1 Bam” — is the only one that carries that bird: a quiet symbol of the very sound that gave the game its name.
In a game of patterns, it is the one that stands apart. It reminds us that beginnings are powerful, that individuality has meaning, and that every great game starts with presence.
